Definition: Baccalaureate is a centuries-old religious graduation tradition that started in England, but in the United States, the term generally refers to a religious ceremony held a few days before high school or college graduation. Unlike the massive commencement exercises held in stadiums or arenas, baccalaureate ceremonies offer a quieter, more intimate opportunity to pause and reflect on this rite of passage, hear faculty members, community leaders and clergy offer advice to the graduating class

On Sunday, May 19, our morning worship service will be a Baccalaureate for our five graduating high school students. Many of us who are older remember attending such a community service that is no longer made available in most public high schools today.   Though it is a reflection of passage for the seniors the worship service is very much a church-wide moment of celebration.
